Salaloi Temple

The temple's founding story begins in 1827. Returning to Korat after the battle was won, Thao Suranari — Ya Mo — and her husband, the deputy governor, stopped to rest. She had a raft built in the shape of a sala, a pavilion, and set it on the Lam Takhong river as a way of putting the question to fate: wherever it came to rest, a temple would be built there. It grounded on the bank where Wat Sala Loi stands. When Ya Mo died in 1853 at the age of 81, her husband had a chedi raised here to hold her ashes — which is why people in Korat still come to pay their respects at this temple today.
