Khao Yai matters well beyond Thailand: it is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and an ASEAN Heritage Park, and it spreads across four provinces — Saraburi, Nakhon Ratchasima, Prachinburi and Nakhon Nayok. The ground changes as you climb, from wet evergreen forest to open grassland, and each layer holds different animals — wild elephants, tigers, Asiatic black bears, and birds in numbers that draw people here for that alone, alongside plants found in few other places. It is also simply a good place to slow down. Come for the viewpoints and the waterfalls, stay for the wildlife watching, and you leave knowing more about how conservation actually works in Thailand than any exhibit could tell you.
